6 Reasons to Choose Food Delivery Tonight

By Christine Ascher on October 23, 2017

Being a college student means dividing your time between all of the numerous responsibilities and commitments that you have, and often leaving yourself with little time for the basic necessities, such as sleeping and eating well. It can be difficult to always find the time to prepare healthy and good-tasting meals for yourself, especially when you first move out of a dorm and no longer have a meal plan to fall back on.

While ordering out all the time can get pricey, once in a while, it’s definitely worth the extra cost. In addition, with such a wide range of apps and possibilities for ordering food, such as Postmates, GrubHub, and DoorDash, there’s a huge variety of options to choose from. If you feel like treating yourself, here’s a list of reasons why you should consider staying in tonight and ordering delivery.

1. Take advantage of the convenience

Especially when the semester starts to pick up steam, college life can quickly devolve into a non-stop parade of homework, studying, extracurricular commitments, and chores. Once in a while, it’s a good idea to give yourself a break from your responsibilities — or to save yourself some time so you can spend it on whatever needs catching up — and skip the cooking and cleaning.

The main benefit of ordering in is the simple fact that it’s convenient. You don’t have to go anywhere, you don’t have to do anything, and you’ll save a lot of time. The convenience of food delivery will allow you to dedicate more time to other tasks, or even to have more free time. For this reason alone, it’s pretty worthwhile.

2. Eliminate the need for dish-washing

Preparing a meal often can mean leaving a pile of dirty dishes sitting in the sink that you’ll have to clean up eventually — not a pleasing prospect after having taken the time to actually cook. By ordering delivery, you won’t have to go out and you’ll significantly reduce the number of dirty dishes that you have to address when you’re finished eating.

You can even eliminate the need to do dishes completely by using the delivery containers to eat out of instead of plates.

3. Stock up on leftovers

While you may feel guilty about the cost of ordering delivery, there’s at least one reason to calm your consciousness: ordering in means you’ll probably have enough food left over for at least one more meal. If you save some leftovers for your lunch tomorrow, you’ll save yourself the time it takes to prepare two meals and will make the extra money you may have spent ordering in worthwhile.

You can even order a little bit more than you normally would in order to take care of one or two more meals; that’s more time and trouble that you’ll save by not having to prepare your own food or having to go out to get it.

4. Give yourself more options

Unless you’re an inspired chef (which most college students are not), you may find yourself constantly preparing the same meals all the time. It can get highly redundant after a while to continue eating all that ramen — not to mention the fact that it doesn’t have the best nutritional value.

Ordering delivery allows you to choose from infinitely more options, without having to actually take the time to go out. In addition to having the freedom to choose any type of food that you want, you’ll also have the opportunity to spring for a healthier or, if anything, more varied meal. Especially for this reason, food delivery isn’t always something to feel bad about.

5. Minimize distractions from your studying

Food delivery is a life-saver when it comes to last-minute cramming for exams. Just because you’re too busy studying to make dinner or to go out and buy anything, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat well. In fact, you’ll need a good meal to get your energy up and your mind sharp and focused.

Ordering in will save you a lot of time, and will provide only minimal distractions from your packed study schedule. It’s also a great idea to order in if you’re studying in a big group, as you’ll be able to order a larger variety of food to split — in addition to splitting the cost.

6. Stay in and have a lazy night

Every once in a while, you need to have a lazy night in. Ordering delivery means that you don’t have to get dressed up, and you can enjoy a quiet, relaxed night to recuperate after a busy week. You can even eat your dinner in your pajamas while watching a movie if you want, and you won’t have to do any meal prep or clean-up afterward.

Whether you’re having friends over or eating on your own, you can enjoy the luxury of a good meal from the comfort of your own couch.
